Nudes Exposed is run by professional photographer Leigh Perkins LBIPP and his business partner and wife, Zena. Leigh has over 30 years experience as a full-time professional photographer and cameraman, working all over Europe, as well as the Caribbean and North America.
Leigh started out as a Cruise Ship photographer in the Caribbean when he was just 18 and over the years has worked in every photographic field imaginable from weddings, portraiture and PR to commercial, travel and video production.
Zena joined the business in 2002 and in 2004 they set up Mighty Aphrodite – a specialist nude, erotic and boudoir portrait studio for women, men and couples. Their erotic and nude photo shoots soon became so popular that they stopped taking commissions for any other type of photography so that they could fully customise their studio for erotic, nude and glamour work. Mighty Aphrodite is one of the UK’s longest-running boudoir studios and with Leigh photographing every single Mighty Aphrodite photo shoot, he is probably the UK’s most experienced erotic & nude portrait photographer. As well as work for private clients, Mighty Aphrodite also undertake commercial work primarily for the adult sector and helped to film videos for the launch of the Pirelli Calendar in 2014 & 2015. See more about our work for Pirelli here: Pirelli Calendar 2014 & Pirelli Calendar 2015
Leigh is renowned in the industry for his skilled studio lighting and set design and with Nudes Exposed he hopes to share his knowledge and experience with photographers of all abilities. With his expertise, Leigh wants to help other photographers create incredible images and develop their skill and understanding in the rewarding field of boudoir, nude and erotic photography.
I'm sometimes asked “What qualifies you to teach nude photography?” For sure I don't have a Degree in photography and I actually failed my Photography O-Level! But what sets me apart from the crowd is that I actually earn my living shooting the same genre of photography that I teach on my workshops.
You won't find me shooting weddings, kids or pets, (I've taken the advice “never work with children or animals” very much to heart). You'll simply find me in the studio shooting nudes & boudoir pretty much every day of my working week with my business Mighty Aphrodite.
For over twelve years now I have almost exclusively been shooting nudes and erotica. With most of my shoots being private commissions from normal everyday people as opposed to the experienced models seen here on our site, you really need to know your stuff. Each and every body that comes into the studio is different. Each will require poses that work for them, lighting that will flatter their body shape and because they are not models they need micro-managed direction. Shooting boudoir clients in this way for so long has given me a wealth of experience to draw upon and pass on to my workshop clients.
Lighting is my passion. Get the light right and you're most of the way to creating your image. If you get the light wrong, it's a tough place to recover from. To understand light enables us to create “daylight” in the studio, to place shadows in exactly the right places, to add a cup size or add shape to a breast, even take someone down a dress size way before the image has even seen Photoshop.
Of course taking images is only part of the job. Running a successful studio for over a decade has also required me to learn other skills too. We had to design a versatile studio space from scratch. We now have more than a dozen studio sets we can use in a very modest space (everyone is inspired by how we can change the look of the studio completely very quickly). I've learned to use Photoshop to a high degree in a time efficient way. I 've also had to constantly evolve and learn as technology moves on - such as understanding colour management which is key to the successful output of images.
Of course none of this would count for anything on a workshop if I were not able to impart this knowledge to our attendees. The fact that lots of our clients return for for two, three, four or more workshops is proof enough that the hands-on teaching methods we use are working and are valued by our attendees.
So what qualifies me to teach?...just the last thirty years as a photographer, the last twelve shooting nudes, oh and the two thousand or so clients that have paid me to shoot them with no clothes on :-)
